2021-2022 Scripps Spelling Bee

Fri, Nov 12, 2021

Daarul Uloom will once again be using the Scripps National Spelling Bee for its annual Spelling Bee competition. The Scripps National Spelling Bee is the nation’s largest and longest-running educational program, having launched in 1925. The purpose of the Scripps National Spelling Bee is to help students improve their spelling, increase their vocabularies, learn concepts and develop correct English usage that will help them all their lives. Visit spellingbee.com for more information about the Scripps National Spelling Bee, which is administered on a not-for-profit basis by The E.W. Scripps Company.

In order to compete at the national level, students must qualify locally which is normally sponsored by Peoria Journal Star. We would like to give our students this opportunity! We have distributed the English Spelling Bee list to students in 1st-8th grades on November 5. Please let us know if your child has not received it.

Special Note: This year Scripps came out with a new format for the spelling lists. Each grade now has its own study words which teachers can give to students! Students are not prohibited from studying for all difficulty levels; however, it is recommended that they spend at least the first two weeks mastering their own level before moving on to the rest of the list. To build excitement for this event, Monday, December 6 will be a Black and Yellow colored clothing day. Competition and the chance to earn recognition and awards is a great motivator for children! We hope that this spelling bee competition helps DU students expand their spelling skills and enrich their vocabularies.
