Driver's Ed Program Details

Permit Phase – Age 15 a. Learner’s permit (Need to have an adult with valid license when you drive) i. To get the learner’s permit, must be enrolled in an approved driver education course (30 hr classroom instruction) and must pass vision & written tests. ii. The written test can be taken as soon as you are enrolled in the class. You don’t have to complete the class, but it should be completed to get the license. b. Graduated License (you can drive without an adult in the car) i. Learner’s Permit must be held for a minimum of nine months. ii. Complete 6hr behind-the-wheel class iii. Must practice driving a minimum of 50 hours, including 10 hours at night, supervised by a parent or adult age 21 or older with a valid driver’s license.


Initial Licensing phase – Age 16-17 a. Learner’s permit (Need to have an adult with valid license when you drive) i. To get the learner’s permit, must be enrolled in an approved driver education course (30 hr classroom instruction) if the driver is 17 yr 3 month or younger. ii. The written test can be taken as soon as you are enrolled in the class. You don’t have to complete the class, but it should be completed to get the license. iii. If the driver is 17 yr 3 month or older, no need to take the 30 hr classroom instruction. You need to pass only written & vision tests. b. Graduated License (you can drive without an adult in the car) i. Learner’s Permit must be held for a minimum of nine months or until the driver turns 18 ii. Complete 6hr behind-the-wheel class if you are 17 yr 3month or younger iii. Must practice driving a minimum of 50 hours, including 10 hours at night, supervised by a parent or adult age 21 or older with a valid driver’s license.


Full Licensing phase – Age 18-20 a. Complete a six-hour adult driver education course before obtaining a driver’s license.
