Daarul Uloom Islamic School believes that a mandatory school uniform policy will provide a more secure school environment, promote an atmosphere for greater discipline, enhance solidarity, and increase learning opportunities for students by removing many of the distractions and connotations associated with various types of clothing.

 

DU students are required to wear uniforms to class. Students shall be expected to maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance at school. The first responsibility for maintaining proper standards belongs to the student and parents, or guardian.  Parents are responsible for ensuring that their children wear the designated school uniform clothing as outlined below.

Uniform for Boys

PreK1 & PreK2: The uniform policy is optional for these grades.

Shirts (KG-8th): Students are required to wear long or short-sleeved light blue polo shirt.

Sweaters (KG-8th): Navy blue sweaters may be worn. They should be free of logos, stripes, emblems, and other decorations. 

Undershirts (KG-8th): Students may only wear a solid white or navy blue long or short sleeved T-shirt under the polo shirt. Colored shirts and logos are not permitted underneath uniform shirts.

Pants (KG-8th): Solid navy blue pants for KG – 8th grade.

Shoes (All grade levels): Students are required to wear non-marking soled shoes at all times.  Light-up shoes are not permitted.

 

Uniform for Girls

PreK1 & PreK2: The uniform policy is optional for these grades.

Shirts (KG-2nd): Students are required to wear long or short sleeve light blue polo shirts.  Shirts must be free of logos, stripes, emblems, and other decorations.

Shirts (3rd-8th): Students are required to wear only long sleeve light blue polo shirts.  Shirts must be free of logos, stripes, emblems, and other decorations.

Sweaters (KG-8th): Navy blue sweaters may be worn. They should be free of logos, stripes, emblems, and other decorations.

Undershirts (KG-8th): Students may only wear a solid white or navy blue long or short sleeved T-shirt under the polo shirt. Colored shirts and logos are not permitted underneath uniform shirts.

Jumpers and Pants (KG-8th): Solid navy blue jumpers must be worn with solid navy blue pants.

Abayas: Students in Grades 3rd-8th will have the option of wearing the abaya during regular school days ONLY. The abaya will not be allowed on PE Days. Abayas must be plain black with no decorations.

Hijab (6th-8th): The scarf is optional for girls 5th grade and below. Scarves must be worn during salat for 1st grade and up. 6th - 8th grade students must wear a one or two-piece fitted solid white hijab.  

Accessories: Hats are not to be worn in the building. Girls may wear stud earrings only. Make-up of any kind is strictly prohibited.

Physical Education (PE) Attire

All students (KG-8th) are required to dress properly for Physical Education. Separate PE clothes will help prevent regular school clothes from being ruined and provides flexibility for students while in PE. PE clothes are aligned with school dress code rules so students don’t have to worry about changing during the day.

Boys (KG-8th):

1)    All clothing must be in solid colors – no prints, florals, stripes, or logos.

2)    Navy Blue sweat pants, exercise pants, or athletic pants (Shorts are not allowed).

3)    Light blue T-shirt (short or long sleeves) and/or sweatshirt.

4)    Athletic shoes that provide student with proper ankle support and safe running.

Girls (KG-5th):

1)    All clothing must be in solid colors – no prints, florals, stripes, or logos.

2)    All girls in grades KG-5th have to wear the jumper on top of the PE attire throughout the day. They are allowed to take off the jumper during PE ONLY.

3)    Navy Blue sweat pants, exercise pants, or athletic pants (Tights and leggings are not allowed).

4)    Light blue T-shirt (long sleeved shirts for 3rd-5th) and/or sweatshirt.

5)    Athletic shoes that provide student with proper ankle support and safe running.

Girls (6th-8th):

1)       All clothing must be in solid colors – no prints, florals, stripes, or logos.

2)       Loose fitting Navy Blue sweat pants, exercise pants, or athletic pants (Tights and leggings are not allowed).

3)       Long sleeved Light blue T-shirt and/or sweatshirt. Shirts must be loose and long enough to cover hip area.

4)       All girls in grades 6-8 have to wear the abaya or the jumper on top of the PE attire throughout the day. They are allowed to take off the abaya or the jumper during PE ONLY.

5)       White scarf.

6)       Athletic shoes that provide student with proper ankle support and safe running.

Violations

The administration will determine if the uniform policy has been violated.  Any prohibited items of clothing will be taken by school staff and returned to the parent only. On special school days, the administration may not require students to wear the uniform. During these times, students must wear attire that is in accordance with school policy and the Islamic dress code.

 

Consequences for Violations

  • First Offense: The student will receive a letter regarding the dress code violation which must be signed and returned.
  • Second Offense: Parents will be contacted and allowed the opportunity to bring the missing item(s) to school or may take the child home to dress in the proper uniform.
  • Third Offense: Parents will be contacted and allowed the opportunity to bring the missing item(s) to school or may take the child home to dress in the proper uniform. Student will lose recess.
  • Fourth Offense: Parents will be asked to pick up the student for the remainder of the day.
